Two Injured As Major Tragedy Averted At Kochi Airport

Kochi: Cochin International Airport almost witnessed what could have been one of the biggest airport accidents in Indian aviation history, when the Bahrain-Kochi Gulf Air plane skidded off the rain-soaked runway at around 4 Monday morning.
Cochin International Airport Limited chief V.J. Kurian said heavy rains and winds caused the accident. After skidding off the runway, the plane came to a halt thanks to the muddy patch outside it. Two passengers suffered injuries, and have been moved to a hospital in Angamali. The runway at the airport has been closed down completely following the event. As many as 40 planes have been diverted off to other places. The plane had a total of 137 passengers in it.
Sources at the Kochi Airport speaking to Yentha.com said,"Small aircrafts like the ATR have started landing but bigger aircrafts can only land after this plane is removed. An Air India aircraft from Mumbai has been summoned with man and material to take care of this."
